You can’t PCBL without SEL

See my UTedchat from the 2023 UCET Conference. All of the speakers from Utah's Hope Street Group teacher fellows were phenomenal and mine begins at about the 40 minute mark. 

Reminders for the Prepared Adult:

Transformation and Relationship building - recognize that EVERY student has something to contribute. Transform your idea of the “teacher” role to that of a “discoverer of talents and stoker of strengths”. Collaborative Problem Solving is THE objective, in EVERY content area. 

BELIEVE learning is innate in all of us and when provided with the right environment and guidance every child will CHOOSE to learn. Be the teacher you wish you had. Provide students with the opportunities you wish you had. 

Understand that learning happens through interaction with the environment and with others. View your primary purpose to facilitate a love of learning. Don’t take their mistakes personal and remember that is one of the ways we learn who/how to be.

Let students know what they need to learn and what it will look/sound like once they’ve learned it. Have them make a plan (or scaffold) then have them track their progress.
